Tips for test driving a new role

I regularly hear potential clients say they have started a new role, that looked great on paper & sounded even better at the interview, only to find:

  1. the culture is not what is was reported to be
  2. the promised flexibility was at the discretion of their manager, irrespective of the organisation’s ‘policies’ and what was said at the interview

Unfortunately, people are generally not surprised by this. The traditional recruitment system serves the needs of the employer. And to date most people have had to go along with it, because there has been no clear alternative.

Test driving a new role is the solution that will enable you to be confident that a role / organisation actually is as it has been represented.
