Last year was long & strange, and if you were already struggling in your role, the overlay of the pandemic would have amplified this.
If you’re feeling drained, you’re in very good company.
So here are a few tips to help you get energised and change your mindset around what’s possible for you.
Tip 1: Plan a holiday
I pride myself on being an excellent holiday creator and taker. But I only took 2 weeks off in 2020. We were just taking it week by week and didn’t really plan ahead. I now firmly believe that if it’s not scheduled, it’s unlikely to happen.
Do yourself a favour and make sure you’ve got a holiday or two booked in. Even if it’s a long weekend. Lock it in and you’ll benefit from the fact that 30% of the joy of holidays / travel is in the anticipation.
One of my core desired feelings for this year is adventure. So I am committing to a mini-adventure each month with the family or with a friend.
Tip 2: Ignore unhelpful commentary
If people have said / are saying, “You’re lucky to have a job”, yes, to an extent you are lucky to have a job.
But I’ve got some good news. My prediction during COVID was that most of my clients would identify their dream role, but potentially need to accept a stepping stone role. However, what has happened is that the majority of my clients have been landing their dream role, even in the changing job market.

Tip 3: Believe that you can make a successful career change at any time
We don’t know how long / how coronavirus will play out. So, please ask yourself: Are you happy to stay stuck / unhappy in your current role for an unknown length of time?
If you’re feeling too drained to figure this out now, how will you feel if you’re in the same situation in 6 or 12 months?
I’m here to tell you that there are lots of jobs out there. I’m in regular contact with several head hunters - they’ve noticed a major spike in activity in the last few weeks.
Even if there are fewer jobs, you can still get hired with the right strategy.
