Double down for a healthy work day

Hola! Last week I met up with a gorgeous friend, Kate Riordan, for dinner at Radio Mexico in Melbourne. Yummy, oh so yummy crab shell tacos!

We’ve both recently been on an adventure: Bali for me, and the Jonathan Fields Summer Camp for Kate. Both experiences were amazing in very different ways.

One of Kate’s top takeaways from the camp was from Kristoffer Carter (from This Epic Life). He spoke about the importance of putting in extra effort to look after yourself when you are growing/developing yourself, a business or a project. It seems like one of those bits of wisdom that we would all agree with, but probably wouldn’t think of when ‘under the pump’ on a work day.

Maintaining this balance helps you to stay connected to your Why? (your creativity and energy) and avoid burnout. I love it!

Kate, over to you…

Thanks Nikki. The Good Life Project Summer Camp taught me so many amazing things but this was definitely the most important. When life gets busy or work gets stressful the first thing to go is our daily or weekly self-care regimes. We drop the exercise, the meditation or the creative outlets. We think we are making more time in our busy lives but we are not.

It’s counterintuitive, but when things get busy and stressful this is when we need to double our effort on our self‑care routines. It creates space in our minds to refocus and allows our bodies to distress and re-energise. As a result, we become super efficient and focused on the stuff that really matters.

So, next time you want to drop that walk or run to get into the office earlier don’t! Exercise for a further 10 minutes, take 3 deep breaths and see what happens. Good luck!

Take action: Kristoffer Carter calls it “Double Down.” I love the phrase and it’s been heard a lot around my house this week. But I want to simplify it to the “one thing” So, what’s one thing you could introduce into your week to look after yourself even better?

For me: adding a surf to my week

For Kate: 20 min meditation
